About the KonMari Method

“People cannot change their habits without first changing their way of thinking.”

- Marie Kondo

Developed by Japanese tidying expert Marie Kondo, the KonMari Method™ is a tidying philosophy focusing on keeping only those things that spark joy and help you live your ideal life.

KonMari tidying festivals allow you to check each and every item in your home and discard what no longer serves you with gratitude.

The method is effective in tidying up your home once and for all, but also in helping you hone your ability to practice mindfulness and gratitude in all areas of your life.

About Joselyn

I am a Certified KonMari Consultant and Simplicity Coach based in Ottawa, Ontario with a passion for teaching and helping others, one organized closet at a time.

I wear many hats (literally and figuratively) as I am also a recent Ph.D. graduate, a trained AMI Montessori Casa guide and enthusiast, and a second language instructor.

My KonMari journey started when I began working full-time on my Ph.D. at home. I didn’t realize it at the time, but the space I shared with my husband and furry sons had become so cluttered that I couldn’t focus on my writing. It wasn’t until after taking a month-long vacation to Japan that I realized just how much the physical clutter around me transformed into mental clutter clouding my ability to write. On the flight home, I listened to the audiobook The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo and decided then and there that I was going to declutter my life and my mind once and for all.

After successfully tidying up our home alongside my husband, I felt that I could put my personal KonMari experience together with my teaching experience to help others reduce their physical and mental clutter as well.

“That’s not a very professional photo.”

- My mother

She is correct.

But it’s a photo that sparks joy for me.

Why? Because I love food (especially anything involving croissants) and I love traveling (especially with my husband, who took this photo while we were on vacation). I also love hats and simple gold jewellery. Check, check, and check
